India is a country of great diversity, with a population of more than one billion people living in an area slightly larger than one-third the size of the United States. In spite of India’s rapidly growing economy and high-tech workforce, many of its rural people still struggle with extreme poverty and no access to safe water.  900,000 people die each year in India from water related illnesses. India is facing a severe water crisis that affects millions of people in the country. According to estimates, over 60 million people in India lack access to clean drinking water, and the situation is only expected to worsen in the coming years as the population grows. The lack of clean water in India has serious consequences for the health and well-being of the population. Thirst Relief has worked with our partners for many years to dig wells in three states of India. Rajasthan, Orissa and Tamil Nadu to provide lasting solutions in order to help resolve this problem.
